6 Days in
I can’t believe I have been eating a raw diet for 6 days. Effortlessly! The scale has fluctuated a little but I am going to try to pay less attention that, maybe take a monthly Weigh In and try to ignore the little ups and downs that usually drive me crazy.
Went to a fireworks show with the family last night and packed some healthy snacks.
Yesterday’s Food
lots of fruit: grapes, mango, cherries, raspberries
Green smoothie (kale, raspberry, banana – not a recommended combo!!)
Salad: romaine, avocado, yellow onion w/ balsamic & olive oil
almonds

So far so good- Day 3 Raw
Having fun eating raw. I don’t think I going to do official weigh-ins but after 3 days I have lost 6 lbs. I feel good. I had a Bean Recipe Fail because I thought i could just soak some dryed beans and make a nice salad but it turns out some beans are toxic and can’t be eaten raw and also the beans are still very hard after soaking. Research is key lol I am thinking about adding canned beans to my diet. They are not raw because they have been heated before canning but I would just rinse and use them without further cooking. I will probably settle somewhere around a 90-95% raw diet. we’ll see. i read anywhere over 75% is good. So far i’ve been 100% but i don’t want to be too strict or obsessive.
ok, on to the menu:
Breakfast
2 bananas
Lunch
Salad: Romaine lettuce with 1/2 avocado & 1 small yellow onion, olive oil, balsamic vinegar and a bit of sea salt. This salad was unbelievable!!
Dinner
Green Smoothie (spinach, banana, 6 strawberries, water)
Snacks
3 red plums
green grapes
watermelon
Goals for tomorrow: start using the Brita filter (i’m too lazy to fill it!!) Buy ice for smoothies, try Tai Chi video from library before it’s due

Day 2 Raw
So, I think I’ve eaten 100% raw for 2 days. I don’t know that I will stay 100% but the more I look around the more ideas I get. Also…my local supermarket has a full like of Lara Bars so I sampled the Apple Pie flavor and it was soooo good! Loved that there were practically no ingredients lol I’m used to everything in a package having a laundry list of weird ingredients!!
Today I made my first Green Smoothie. I somewhat feared the thing but it was soooo good!! If that was my first attempt then it can only get better! If you have a great smoothie recipe that can be made in a blender (i have no juicer or food processor) please share!!!
So, it was about 2 cups of spinach, 5 or 6 small local strawberries, 2 bananas. It was supposed to be 1 but i freaked out last minute because it looked thin and I added another banana. I look forward to making another one tomorrow – it was cool, yummy, inexpensive and filling!
To backtrack… here’s what I ate:
Breakfast
cantaloupe
Lunch
Green Smoothie
Dinner
1/2 mango
about 3/4 c crushed walnuts
Snacks throughout the day
cherries
green grapes
1/2 avocado
Lara Bar
Blackberries
Goal for tomorrow: Learn more about combining foods. Eat more protein. I am soaking 3 kinds of beans to make a bean/cucumber salad that I love. Also, i want to start eating more veggies.

1st day raw
So i woke up with the intention of totally changing my way of eating. I weighed in at 182 lbs which is almost 10lbs more than i was wheni started this blog back in december. My eating has spiraled out of controlled once again, with a pattern of trying to low carb it and only making it through about 2 weeks. Years ago I had luck eating that way long term but for the past 4 years it has been a total daily struggle so… something completely different.
I love fruits and can eat lots of fruit all day but haven’t let myself because of the sugar and the fact that I am so sugar addicted and lose control. Well, I don’t know anyone that got fat eating fruit!! So, I am reading about how you should eat fruit first thing in the morning on an empty stomach for proper digestion. It’s interesting. I want to learn about the right way to combine foods and how much fruig/veg/nuts/seeds i need to eat daily. i also love to eat salads, raw veg and nuts/seeds so really i think i can handle this.
I skipped breakfast so I could go to the library for Raw Food books then to produce store for some fruit/veg to eat! I felt full and happy all day yesterday, no headaches or anything, here is what i ate:
Lunch
2 bananas
2 red plums
1/4 pint blackberries
about a cup or more of cherries
1 liter water
snacks
2 more plums
green grapes
cherries
Dinner
romaine & onion salad w/olive oil & balsamic
water
snack
more of those awesome cherries
water
I had stuff on hand to make a smoothie but was so full I never managed!!
Plan for day 2: have the spinach smoothy for lunch to get some green leafies! start using fitday and drink lots of water!

5th Day Freakout / Daily Menu
AKA Migraine Meltdown
I had PMS fatigue from hell and had totally over-done it the day before, having an exhausting day that ending at 1am. I woke up with the worst sinusy headeache that just got worse through the day and around 2pm I ate a huge chunk of leftover ice cream cake that was in the freezer. I was desperate. I had taken sinus pills, tylenol, tried to nap, had eaten well all day so far, was hydrated and I thought maybe I was having some kind of sugar withdrawal. In the future I will not try to feed a headache, this is a bad habit I have.
If the ice cream cake hadn’t been there I am sure I would’ve eaten french toast sticks or waffles or who knows what but I moved on from it and had a reasonable dinner.
I need to be more flexible anyway, i tend to get hardcore and then it’s hard to recover from a slip or stay hard-core forever. Today will be better
Late Breakfast:
3 eggs over medium
Snack:
Cashews
Pickle
Migraine Meltdown:
Giant Chunk of Carvel Cake
Dinner:
Salad: baby spinach, cucumbers, radishes, scallions, shredded carrots & red cabbage, sliced almonds
2 tblsp Caesar Dressing
+/- 1c spaghetti bolognese (wasn’t into it, so i had 2 servings of salad)

Day 4 Menu/Sneaky early weigh-in
Yesterday was just nutty but eating was a snap. I didn’t crave and had lots of energy that lasted through an incredibly long and busy day. I think it’s working!! I got on the scale this morning and it’s going down… yippee!!
Breakfast
2 Scrambled eggs / .5 tblsp butter
Snack
large roasted portabello mushroom cap with a little melted shredded jack cheese on top, yummmmm
Lunch -very limited choices at a sit-down post-communion luncheon
small garden salad with mysterious creamy dressing. it wasn’t heavily dressed and had good stuff in it.
6oz steak (guessing the size) with gravy on it
green bean (sitting in the same gravy lol)
didn’t eat the fancifully swirly-piped mashed potatoes
drank lots of water
experienced much stress and anxiety over the kiddy-table, must be good for a few extra calories burned
more calories burned: walked around amusement park for 4 hours with family, kids had ice cream, i did not
Dinner
Salad w/tuna, romaine, baby spinach, scallions, radish, mushrooms, shredded red cabbage & carrot, sliced almonds, olive oil & red wine vinegar and a little parmesan cheese
