Rough day

Yikes, today was a rough one. There were pancakes and double-chocolate cupcakes and incredible looking quesadillas to avoid at every turn but I made it through. The cupcakes almost beat me at one point but I somehow won that battle too. I feel like it was an uphill battle all day long but I am proud of myself for toughing it out. It’s probably not normal to still be obsessing about 8am pancakes at 8pm but I wouldn’t describe my relationship with food as normal.

Here’s what I had today:

Breakfast: Scrambled egg
Snack:  Avocado
Lunch: Pepperoni & monterey jack cheese
Snack: more pepperoni, +/- 2 tbsp spinach veggie dip w/celery sticks & bell pepper
Dinner: my quickie Stracciatelli soup

Drinks: water, caff free diet coke, diet dr brown’s black cherry soda
I know I should avoid the sodas but the black cherry one satisfies my sweet tooth for know

2nd Week Weigh In

Things got kinda ugly this week. I was pretty out of control and I am going to, under great protest from some part of me, list the piggy foods I ate this week when no one was looking. Lucky for me I weighed in the same as last Fri so the stats remain: 175/170/130 and I hold on to the 5lb loss. Without further ado, my piggy list:

  • Potato Chips 2x
  • pint of Ben & Jerry’s choco fudge brownie ice cream
  • lasagna
  • chunk of dark chocolate

I had bad headaches all week and I would go off the deep end and eat crap. My self-esteem is in the toilet this week too. Dunno if that’s from the lousy eating or triggering the lack of control/care etc. BUT i am not going be defeted and give up. I am going to do GREAT this week…I want to say GOODBYE to the 170’s for good :)

Day 9 Menu

Oct 4, 2008

I had everyone over and cooked up a storm. I made sure I had lots of LC options and things went very well. i sampled the Lasagna and it was worth it! I probably ate too much but I didn’t have any sugar!

Breakfast:  Bacon, scrambled eggs
Snacks: celery & bell peppers w/spinach veggie dip, vermont cheddar & pepperoni, deviled eggs, artichoke hearts (i know, a bit much!)
Dinner: 2″ rectangle of the Best Lasagna Ever, a little of the Peppers & Onions but I was way too full for the Sausage at that point!!

Drinks: tiny glass of red wine, water, Sierra Mist Free, Licorice Spice Herbal Tea

I am not going anywhere near that scale until at least Wednesday!! I am probably retaining water after all those salty snacks.

Entertaining MIL & FIL

I’m having my husband’s family over today and it’s the first time I will be having a party since starting my LC plan. I will have lots of Low-Carb friendly food so I am not worried about that but there will be other things that surely need to be avoided so I have to really stay in control. It’s that Holiday Mentality that has destroyed me in the past, convincing myself that I will just have a little of this&that today because I never have it or it’s a special occasion. I am not one that can handle sugar in moderation, I go into a complete tailspin and with 2-3 days will be back into my horrible sugar & carb binging.

There will be cheese, artichoke hearts, pepperoni, veggies with dip and deviled eggs for LC snacking. Dinner will be sausge & peppers, lasagna and salad. I should be fine.

To be honest I am still sitting on the fence about the Lasagna. I have myself half convinced that it won’t make me crave if I only have a small piece. I am 100% set against the brownines though and that is much more of a danger zone.

UPDATE: It went well and while I probably ate too much over the course of the day I stayed in total control and didn’t really go off plan :) I ate alot of the veggie platter (celery, red & green bell peppers) with spinach veggie dip and I had cheese & pepperoni so by dinner I wasn’t even very hungry. I did have a very small piece of lasagna and it was so worth it! YUM. Also, I think I was so active running around the house all day that it must have burned off something LOL ! I didn’t touch the brownies or the pies that guests brought over. I just made myself a strongly scented/flavored cup of Licorice Spice Herbal Tea (from Stash) and I couldn’t even smell the brownines. Everyone else stuffed themselves and had a good time :)

One week!!

This was  a good week overall but when PMS hit the cravings came with it. It was really hard the last 2 days, especially yesterday and I was really proud of myself last night for not giving in. It was as if a little chocolate devil was on my shoulder yelling in my ear and it didn’t help that there is a huge dark chocolate bar and pack of choco chip cookies in the house. But I resisted! I couldn’t stop myself from hopping back on the scale and I am very happy to say it’s down again!

New stats: 175/170/135

Yesterday’s Menu:

Breakfast: 1/2 large cucumber (great to munch in the car while commuting)
Lunch: Skinless, boneless chick breast w/bleu cheese dressing to dip in, celery sticks
Snack: Olives, pepperoni (I fed the Chocolate Devil pepperoni to shut him up!!)
Dinner: my quickie version of Straciatelli

Drinks: Herbal Tea, Water, Diet Dr Brown’s Black Cherry Soda (satisfies my sweet tooth but I fear the chemicals!!)

Today, Day 8:

I barely had any appetite today and was on the run so I just didn’t think about eating (even in the supermarket!!). Every once and I while I would wander to the fridge and have a little snack rather than real meals. I think think the appetite suppression from Low-Carb has kicked in. I haven’t NOT been hungry in years.

Breakfast: 1/2 cucumber, little bit of pepperoni
Lunch: more pepperoni, some feta cheese
Snack: can you guess? a little pepperoni (i’m going to be oversalted today for sure!)
Dinner: no, just some more pepperoni.

I wouldn’t recommended a day of pepperoni snacking but sometimes these things happen. I probably drank more than I ate today.

Drinks: Herbal Tea, Water, Diet Dr Brown’s Black Cherry Soda (don’t worry it’s been the same bottle all week!)

Busy days

I had a couple of busy days and didn’t get to post my menu for yesterday. I did go for a beautiful walk yesterday and we went down to the beach today, it was just soooo nice out!

Anyway, to play catch up.

Yesterday:

Breakfast: 3 egg omelet /salsa & shredded mex cheese
Snack: cheddar cheese (from a cheese & crackers tray while out visiting)
Lunch: Grilled chicken caesar salad (at pizzeria)
Dinner: chicken drumstick & small piece of Feta cheese

Today, Day 6:

Breakfast: small salad of romaine lettuce w/ rotiss chicken and bleu cheese dressing
Snack: slice of salami, small pice feta cheese
Lunch: 2 stalks celery w/ bleu cheese to dip in
Snack: chuck of smoked gouda cheese, the Most Delicious Banana
Dinner: sauteed onions, mushrooms & roast beef (cold cuts) with  Frank’s hot sauce & american cheese on top (yummmm..)

Drinks: glass of red wine, water

I think because I was eating so much of the same foods (chicken and eggs I started getting bored. I try to avoid beef ( I just get turned off because of all the beef recalls so I avoid it)  but I like this recipe alot, it’s comfort food, and hopefully it will keep me going.  I hope the banana doesn’t make me crave sugar tomorrow. The small glass of wine I’ve been having at night hasn’t been doing that.

I am thinking of making “Myra’s NY Style Cheesecake”, it’s a low carb classic and although I am not a fan of artificial sweeteners I think it is a treat that will help keep me going too. No reason to feel deprived while low carbing.

The Most Delicious Banana

Oh, it was the most ripe and yummy looking banana and I could smell it every time I walked by. I finally gave in and ate it and it was so perfectly delicious. I hope it doesn’t make my blood sugar go crazy!
